The holy trinity according to Jacques Chessex: the novels in the face of existence, femininity and God.

Abstract:

The doctoral thesis concerns the novel output of a Swiss author Jacques Chessex. This francophone author entered the literary world thanks to his passion for provocation and combination of the layers of religion and erotism. His work embodies the duality, the contrast and arouses the questions concerning the world and human essence. The thesis creates then a map of the novel output of Jacques Chessex and explains it in the context of the Swiss literature and the biography of the author himself. His novels show us three main motifs, which are the most important in his philosophy and creation : death, woman and God. We analysed every of these motifs from the point of view of different scientific fields, so we could subsequently explain them using particular novels. The result of this "holy trinity" of Jacques Chessex is a fourth element which was discovered, representing the centre of gravity of the triangle - that is the pair of transcendence and transgression. These two contradictory phenomenons are the outcome of the author's experience and thanks to his novels, he describes them as an indispensable part for the full understanding of the world.

Abstract:

Disertační práce pojednává o románové tvorbě švýcarského spisovatele Jacquesa Chessexe. Tento frankofonní autor se zapsal do literárního světa díky své touze provokovat a kombinovat roviny náboženství a erotiky. Jeho dílo je ztělesněním duality, kontrastu a vybízí k otázkám týkajících se podstaty světa a člověka. Tato práce tedy mapuje románovou tvorbu Chessexe a vysvětluje ji v kontextu švýcarské literatury a života spisovatele. Jeho romány nám ukazují tři hlavní témata, která jsou v jeho filozofii a tvorbě nejdůležitější : smrt, žena a Bůh. Každé z témat jsme analyzovali z úhlu pohledu různých vědních disciplín, abychom je následně vysvětlili za pomocí konkrétních románů. Díky této "svaté trojici" Jacquesa Chessexe se nám odkryl čtvrtý díl, těžiště onoho trojúhelníku - a to sice dvojice transcendence a transgrese. Tyto dva protichůdné jevy jsou výsledkem autorovy zkušenosti a díky svým románům je popisuje jako nezbytnou část pro plné pochopení života.
