Inferiority Feeling and Striving for Significance of the Protagonists in Films Rosetta, the Kid with a bike a Two Days One Night. Individual Psychology Study.

Abstract:

V této teoretické práci si kladu za cíl představit základní principy individuální psychologie a analyzovat jejími nástroji protagonisty vybraných filmů současné západoevropské kinematografie. V úvodní části práce vysvětlím základní pojmy a terminologii, které v její druhé části demonstruji na filmech Rosetta, Dva dny, jedna noc a Chlapec na kole belgických autorů, jimiž jsou Jean-Pierre Dardenne a Luc Dardenne. Individuální psychologie pohlíží na lidskou bytost jako na celek ve vztahu k sobě samému a jeho okolí. Individuální psychologie patří do kategorie hlubinné psychologie, a proto si jedinec důvod svého jednání neuvědomuje. Esenciální koncept, s nímž individuální psychologie pracuje, je pocit méněcennosti, který je určující hybnou silou, ovlivňující veškeré myšlenkové pochody, povahu a jednání jedince k jeho zvolenému cíli. Tato dynamika z „méně“ směrem k „více“ charakterizuje lidskou snahu o sebezdokonalování, úsilí o nadřazenost, mimořádnost nebo celistvost. Cílem práce je aplikovat vybrané koncepty pro analýzu filmových protagonistů. Jejich jednání je motivováno snahou postavy uspokojit vnitřní potřebu – dosáhnout důležitého cíle – a v průběhu vyprávění divák skrz jednání postavy poodkrývá její niterný svět. Postava se stává důležitým nosičem lidských vlastností. Cílem práce není popis komplexního systému, ale nastínění určitého psychologického pohledu na postavu.

Abstract:

In this thesis, I aim to present the basic principles of individual psychology and use its tools to analyze the protagonists in selected films of contemporary Western European cinema. In the introductory part of the work, I will explain the basic concepts and terminology, which I will demonstrate in the second part of the work on the films Rosetta, Two Days, One Night and The Kid with a bike by the Belgian writer-directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. Individual psychology looks at the human being as a whole in relation to himself and his social surroundings. Individual psychology belongs to the category of depth psychology and therefore the individual is not aware of the reason for his actions. The essential concept with which individual psychology works is the feeling of inferiority, which is the determining driving force, influencing all thought processes, character and actions of the individual towards his chosen goal. This dynamic from "less" towards "more" characterizes the human striving for self-improvement, the striving for superiority, extraordinaryness or wholeness. The aim of the thesis is to apply selected concepts for the analysis of film protagonists. The actions of the protagonists are motivated by the character's effort to satisfy an inner need - to achieve an important goal, and in the course of the story, the viewer uncovers his inner world through the character's actions. The film protagonist becomes an important carrier of human qualities. The aim of the work is not to describe a complex system, but to outline a certain psychological view of the character.
