The Museum Documentation of the Nativity Scene Making in North-eastern and Eastern Bohemia

Abstract:

Anotace Cílem mé rigorózní práce bylo zachytit vznik a vývoj muzejního sběratelství betlémů v severovýchodních a východních Čechách. Pokusil jsem se spojit dosavadní poznatky o původu, tradicích a šíření betlémářství na tomto území s údaji, které jsem získal dotazníkovým průzkumem a vlastním výzkumem, v jednotlivých institucích, zaměřeným na obsah sbírkových fondů a úroveň jejich dokumentace v institucích, jejichž posláním je péče o hmotné kulturní dědictví – v muzeích. Během mého několikaletého výzkumu jsem zpracoval všechna muzea (17 institucí) v severovýchodních a východních Čechách, v jejichž expozicích či sbírkách betlémy nalezneme. Betlémářství je velice zajímavý a specifický obor, který mě velmi zaujal. Věnoval jsem se mu již ve své bakalářské práci v roce 2000 i ve své diplomové práci v roce 2003. Rigorózní práce je shrnutím mého několikaletého výzkumu muzejního sběratelství betlémů v oblasti severovýchodních a východních Čech.

Abstract:

Resume The aim of this thesis was to describe the origination and the development of the museum collecting of the nativity scenes in the North-eastern and Eastern Bohemia. I tried to combine the existing information about the nativity scene making in this region – its origin, traditions and expanding, with the data I acquired from the questionnaire survey as well as from my own research in these particular institutions. Both of them were aimed on the collections and the quality of their documentation in these institutions, which are in charge of the tangible cultural heritage, in the museums. On the basis of the study of the sources the above mentioned questionnaire survey and the research I managed to depict the history of the collections and the state of museum documentation of the nativity scene making in the presented areas. I also dealt with the contemporary woodcarvers of the nativity scenes including forms of presentation in the exhibitions and expositions. During my research I devoted to for several years, I compiled data from all museums (17 establishments) in the North-eastern and Eastern Bohemia which possess the nativity scenes in their collections. Nativity scene making is a very interesting and specific subject field, which captivated me very much. I already dealt with this issue in my Bachelor’s thesis in the year 2000 as well as in my Master’s thesis in the year 2003. This doctoral thesis is a summary of my long-term research of the museum collecting of the nativity scenes in the region of the North-eastern and Eastern Bohemia.
