Blockchain potentials to fight against COVID-19 and future pandemics

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat současný a budoucí potenciál technologie Blockchain pro zmírnění dopadů COVID-19 a budoucích pandemií, čehož bylo dosaženo pomocí vypracování případové studie. Nejdříve byla vytvořena kritická literární rešerše shrnující aktuální znalosti v dané oblasti. Dále byla vypracována případová studie obsahující informace o osmi vybraných projektech. Jednotlivé projekty byly identifikovány na základě dostupné literatury a určených kritérií. Projekty byly rozděleny do čtyř skupin na základě jejich využitelnosti v jednotlivých fázích pandemie, a to ve fázích prevence, diagnózy, karantény a zotavení. Popis každého případu je primárně zaměřen na jeho využití v přiřazené pandemické fázi, zároveň však zohledňuje i možné využití v dalších fázích. V poslední části jsou výsledky případové studie a možné dopady využití technologie Blockchain během pandemie shrnuty v koncepčním modelu.

Abstract:

The goal of the Master’s thesis is to analyse the current and potential uses of Blockchain technology for mitigating the impacts of COVID-19 and future pandemics. To fulfil this goal, a multi-case study approach was followed. First, a critical literature review was created to summarise the current state of the domain knowledge. Subsequently, a multi-case study containing the description of eight selected projects was carried out. The use cases described in the study were identified based on available literature and specified criteria. They were divided into four groups based on their applicability in various pandemic phases: the prevention, early diagnosis, quarantine time and after-recovery phases. The description of each case primarily focused on usability in a given pandemic phase. Still, it reflected the applicability in other pandemic phases as well. Finally, a conceptual model was developed to summarise the results and the impact of Blockchain usage to overcome future pandemics.
