Practical Application of Bacteriophages

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce podává přehled o některých možnostech praktického využití bakteriofágů ve zdravotnictví, potravinářství a biotechnologiích. Část práce je věnována medicínskému využití a to od prvních terapeutických aplikací až po současné metody. Větší část práce se zaměřuje na nemedicínské využití fágů, především na boj s potravinovými patogeny. Zmíněny jsou hlavní původci nákaz z kontaminovaných potravin a četnost jejich výskytu v některých evropských zemích. Závěr je pak věnován možnostem detekce bakteriálních druhů v životním prostředí či klinických vzorcích za pomoci bakteriofágů.

Abstract:

This thesis provides an overview of some posibilities of practical bacteriophage applications. Part of the work is devoted to the use of phages as therapeutics, from the first attempts to current methods. Most of the work focuses on the nonmedical use, particularly the fight against foodborne pathogens. The main agents of foodborne diseases and frequency of their occurrence in some European countries are also mentioned. Some of the possibilities of bacterial detection in the environment or clinical samples using bacteriophages are discussed by the end of the work.
