The influence of the different attentional focus types and examinator on standing long jump performance.

Abstract:

Cílem práce je ověřit vliv externího a interního zaměření pozornosti na výkon ve skoku do dálky snožmo a zjistit, jestli ve zvoleném experimentálním designu může hrát signifikantní roli očekávání výzkumníka. Sekundárním cílem je zjistit jaký je vztah mezi mírou dodržení instrukcí v experimentu a změnou výkonu v jednotlivých podmínkách. Experimentu se zúčastnilo 60 zdravých aktivně trénujících dobrovolní-ku (36 žen a 24 mužů) ve věku 20,57± 2,66 let. Ti byli rozděleni do dvou skupin. V experimentální skupině byl výzkumník, který experiment vedl a sbíral data, se-známen s testovanou hypotézou. V kontrolní skupině byl účel studie výzkumníkovi zaslepen. V rámci experimentu provedl každý participant 6 skoků z místa do dálky. První dva skoky byly bez specifikace zaměření pozornosti a výsledky posloužily jako výchozí hodnoty. U následujících 4 skoků dostali participanti ve vyváženém pořadí pokyny, které směrovaly pozornost interně nebo externě. Výsledky potvrdily pozi-tivní vliv externího zaměření pozornosti na výkon ve skoku do dálky a prokázaly, že používaný experimentální design je odolný vůči výzkumníkově očekávání. Analýza dále odhalila pozitivní vztah mezi schopností naplňovat instrukce užívané k nasměrování pozornosti a změnou ve výkonu. Tato zjištění jsou diskutována.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to verify the influence of external and internal focus of at-tention on standing long jump performance and to determine whether the experi-menter’s expectations plays a significant role in the chosen experimental design. The secondary goal is to identify the relationship between the degree of adherence with the experiment’s instructions and the change in performance in each condition. Sixty healthy, actively training volunteers (36 women and 24 men) aged 20.57 ± 2.66 years participated in the experiment. They were divided into two groups. The re-searcher who conducted the experiment and collected the experimental group’s data was apprised of the tested hypothesis, while the purpose of the study was blin-ded to the researcher in the control group. Each participant in the experiment per-formed six jumps. The first two jumps were performed without instruction with re-gard to the focus of attention. These results served as a baseline. For the next four jumps, participants received instructions that directed their attention internally or externally in a counterbalanced order. The results confirm the positive influence of external focus of attention on standing long jump performance and demonstrate that the chosen experimental design is robust to the experimenter's expectations. The analysis further reveals a positive relationship between adherence to the in-structions used to direct attention and changes in performance. The implications of these findings are discussed.
