Architecture of Functionalism in Brno

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřená na ucelený pohled na funkcionalistickou architekturu v Brně. Úvodní část pojednává o funkcionalismu ve světě, popisuje jak jeho základní znaky, tak i jeho vznik a vývoj spolu s významnými funkcionalistickými centry a jeho přijetí ve společnosti. Další část práce se zabývá touto problematikou z pohledu tehdejšího Československa. Hlavní částí práce je kapitola podávající komplexní pohled na funkcionalismus v Brně. Je rozdělena na tři stěžejní časová údobí: před první světovou válkou, meziválečné období a období od konce druhé světové války až po současnost. Součástí této kapitoly je také detailní popis, historie a současný stav deseti vybraných významných staveb. Jsou rozděleny na stavby soukromé a veřejné. Tato část je podložena obrazovou přílohou, umožňující porovnání jejich původního a současného stavu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the comprehensive view on the architecture of functionalism in Brno. The introductory chapter discusses the origins and development of functionalism, describes its centres and also acceptance of society. The next chapter deals with the same issues from the Czechoslovakia´s point of view. The fundamental part of the paper is devoted to Brno´s functionalist architecture. It is divided in three different time periods: before the World War I, the Interwar and after the World War II period up to presence. This part also includes detailed description, history and current condition of ten significant buildings. The first four of them present private and the rest public properties. Information concerning this chapter is demonstrated in the illustrations, which enables the visual comparison between the original and current condition of these buildings.
