Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na výslovnost angličtiny českých emigrantů, kteří se během svého života usadili v anglicky mluvící zemi. Cílem práce je posoudit jejich výslovnostní chyby ve vztahu ke zvyklostem české výslovnosti. Teoretická část se věnuje hlavním rozdílům mezi anglickým a českým systémem hlásek, porovnává rozdílné použití samohlásek a souhlásek a zabývá se také suprasegmentálními vlastnostmi, které jsou v obou těchto jazycích rozdílné, jako například slovní přízvuk a vázání slov. Rozdíly jsou vysvětleny na názorných příkladech z českého a anglického jazyka. V praktické části jsou analyzovány nahrávky mluveného projevu čtyř českých emigrantů a jejich výslovnost je posouzena na základě závěrů teoretické sekce. Rozbor také hodnotí vývoj ve výslovnosti každého emigranta porovnáním nahrávek, mezi nimiž je časový odstup několika let. Nejčastější chyby ve výslovnosti posuzovaných emigrantů jsou v desonorizaci koncových lenisových souhlásek a aspiraci.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the English pronunciation of Czech expatriates who immigrated to and settled down in an English speaking country during their lives. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and assess their pronunciation mistakes in relation to habits in the Czech pronunciation. The theoretical section outlines main differences between English and Czech sound systems, compares the treatment of vowels and consonants, and explores suprasegmental features which are different in each of the languages, such as word stress and liaison. The differences are explained on examples from the Czech and English language. In the practical part, speech recordings of four Czech expatriates are analyzed, and their pronunciations are assessed based on the findings of the theoretical passage. The analysis also compares development of each expat on recordings made years apart. The most frequent mistakes in the assessed expats’ pronunciations are made in devoicing of final lenis consonants and aspiration.
