Home sweet home

Abstract:

Document is struggling with its own definition over decades now. Even though there have been many attempts from professional film theorists to define and specify document, none of it was successful enough to have one official definition and it is usually stated as the contrary to feature film. It is very important for film maker to be aware of menaces specifically of document. It is really important to use film wordage in a correct way to not manipulate with the audience and be very empathetic towards the portrayed person and take a special care about him/ her regarding the fact he/she is running a risk showing the privacy on the screen. What is home? What does it mean to you? Where is your home? All these questions have different answers depending on a person, personal experiences and family background. For some of them it is an obligation and feeling of responsibility to come back home from abroad, others see their future nomadic. Seeing my analyses based on short interviews is a great example how diverse the society can be. It is impossible to border this topic with define number of types, because it is too wide and it’s changing and growing day by day. It was very challenging to convert this subject into a film form: film making requires a film crew with specified division of roles and a lot of time investment. Despite the fact, I was the actual director, cameraman and editor, I realized a lot of things which I knew only from theoretical side and it was a great experience which gave me priceless practical experience to the future.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca „Domov, sladký domov“ (Home sweet home), televízny dokument- portrét, skladajúci sa z dvoch častí. V praktickej časti som predstavila portrét troch ľudí žijúcich za hranicami krajiny pôvodu bez vôle návratu späť. Každý z aktérov dokumentu predstavuje iný prípad z pohľadu motivácie na odchod: Mallia sa necíti byť súčasťou krajiny pôvodu a návrat späť odmieta; Salva po smrti oboch rodičov odchádza a hľadá nový domov za hranicami; Marta považuje návrat za nutné usadenie sa a jej snom je cestovať. Film profiluje obraz každej z postáv, odhaľujúc a ozrejmujúc jej pohnútky na odchod, vízie do budúcna a možný či absolútne nereálny a odmietaný návrat späť. Teoretická časť práce sa opiera o sociologické teórie, prípadové štúdie a analýzy vychádzajúc z konceptu dekonštrukcie domova, transnacionálnej migrácie, deteritorializácie a rôznych možných druhov pohybu. Práca sa tiež zaoberá otázkou návratu a jeho dôsledkov. Súčasťou je popis vzniku a realizácie praktickej časti.
