The Monetary Policy Measures of the Fed during the Financial Crisis

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce „Nástroje monetární politiky Fedu v období finanční krize“ je analýza programů a opatření, která Fed použil ze své funkce věřitele poslední instance po roce 2007. Cílem práce je charakterizovat tyto programy a určit jejich dopad na fungování finančních trhů a na ekonomické subjekty samotné. Základním zdrojem informací jsou především webové stránky Federálního rezervního systému, na kterých jsou zveřejněna veškerá data k jednotlivým programům. První kapitola popisuje ekonomický vývoj v době před krizí a pak samotný průběh a dopady krize. Dále se zabývám tématem věřitele poslední instance. V třetí kapitole poté charakterizuji jednotlivá opatření, která Federální rezervní systém přijal a uvádím k nim i data k ilustraci toho, o jak rozsáhlé kroky se jednalo. Čtvrtá kapitola se zabývá dopady přijatých programů na fungování finančních trhů.

Abstract:

The subject matter of the thesis „The Monetary Policy Measures of the Fed during the Financial Crisis” is to analyze programs and facilities that the Fed implemented as the lender of last resort in order to fight the financial crisis after 2007. The aim of the thesis is to describe these programs and to determine its impact on financial markets. The main source of information is the website of the Fed where all the information and data are published. The first chapter describes the U. S. economy in the pre-crisis times and after the crisis emerged in 2007 and its impacts on the U. S. economy. In the next chapter the context of the lender of last resort is explained. I then describe the programs, facilities and policies measures taken by the Fed to respond to the crisis and I also provide the data to illustrate how extensive the response was. In the last chapter I analyze the impacts of the measures taken on the financial markets.
