Quantificational adverbs and their semantics: experimental study

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se věnuje sémantice českých kvantifikačních adverbií, konkrétně frekvenčním a degree adverbiím podle studie Jenny Doetjes, a jejich chování v explicitním a implicitním módu komparace. Teoretická část je věnována charakteristice adverbií, jejich klasifikaci a také rozlišení mezi explicitním a implicitním módem komparace. V praktické části je představen experiment, testující tři dílčí lingvistické jevy, který zkoumá přijatelnost daných jevů rodilými mluvčími. Cílem této diplomové práce je ověřit intuitivní rozdíly mezi degree a frekvenčními adverbii a otestovat, jak funguje explicitní a implicitní mód komparace v crisp scénářích.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the semantics of adverbs of quantification, more precisely degree and frequency adverbs according to the study of Jenny Doetjes and its behaviour in explicit and implicit comparison. The theoretical part analyses the characteristics and classification of adverbs, and also the distinction between explicit and implicit comparison. The practical part presents an experiment, testing three partial linguistics phenomena, which studies the acceptability of these by native speakers. The goal of this thesis is to verify the intuitive differences between degree and frequency adverbs and to test how the explicit and implicit comparison works in crisp judgments contexts.
