Watching TV and its role outside of the milieu of traditional home and family in the New Media Context

Abstract:

Ve svém diplomové práci se zaměřujeme především na analýzu pěti stěžejních oblastí: 1) sledování (klasické) televize 2) a její roli, dále 3) roli nových médií, způsobům jejich užívání ve zkoumaném prostředí. V neposlední řadě zkoumáme i 4) motivaci respondentů ke sledování televizních obsahů prostřednictvím nových médií, včetně samotného 5) procesu možného doplňování či nahrazování klasické televize novými médii. Zkoumáme televizi a její role v dnešní době, kdy je ohrožováno její výhradní postavení nejen jako „rodinného krbu v obývacím pokoji“, ale především jako „okna do světa“, jako mediálního kanálu, kterým nám do našich „domovů“ proudí, nejen, televizní obsahy, a který nám tyto obsahy umožňuje přijímat a konzumovat. To vše v kontextu nových médií, která televizní přijímač mohou suplovat či spíše doplňovat. Výzkum je specifikován také tím, že je realizován mimo prostředí tzv. tradičního domova, tedy mimo to prostředí, které je spojováno s naším privátním světem, v němž hraje klasická televize jednu z ústředních úloh.

Abstract:

The Master thesis is engaged in research that is focused on analyzing five fundamental lays: 1) watching (classical) television 2) and its role, next 3) new media role, the ways of the using them in the researched milieu. Last but not least we examine 4) informant’s motivation for watching TV contents by means of new media 5) and the process of possible complementing or substituting of classical television by new media technologies. We do examine the television and its role today when the role of its exclusive status as the "family hearth (fireplace) in the living room" and a "window to the world" is threatened. The last mentioned role is seen firstly as a media channel, which brings to our "homes" not only TV content, secondly as a tool which enables us to receive and consume. The content of thesis is understood in context of new media that can substitute or complement the television. The research is further specified by the fact that is implemented outside of the traditional home environment, the environment being connected with our private world where the traditional television plays may be central role.
