Cílem této práce je výzkum a porovnání kulturního významu prastarých kamenných staveb na Britských Ostrovech ve třech různých obdobích: v období neolitu a době bronzové, v období romantismu, a v éře 20. a 21. století. Práce popisuje pravděpodobná užití a funkce kamenných monumentů, zejména Stonehenge. Dále zkoumá názory a přesvědčení neolitické společnosti a porovnává je s názory a přístupy současné dominantní kultury, a také s poněkud odlišnými názory různých subkultur, jako jsou Druidové nebo Hippies.

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to examine and compare cultural significance of ancient stone monuments in the British Isles in three different periods: the Neolithic and Bronze Age, the Romantic period, and the 20th and 21st century era. It describes likely uses and functions of ancient stone monuments, Stonehenge in particular. Furthermore, it examines the views and beliefs of the Neolithic society and compares them with views and attitudes of the current dominant culture, and also with rather different views of various sub-cultural groups, such as the Druids or Hippies.
