Chronemics and it's influence on couple satisfaction: The usage of chronemic rules when replying to text messages

Abstract:

Studie se zabývá souvislostí mezi specifickými chronemickými signály (časovými pravidly) v CMC prostředí a partnerskou spokojeností párů do 1 roku vztahu. Z dosavadních výzkumů se prokázala spojitost mezi partnerskou spokojeností a typem attachmentu jedince, dále také mezi mírou subjektivně vnímané feminity/maskulinity a partnerskou spokojeností. Typ attachmentu jedince a míra feminity/maskulinity jsou zjišťovány jako možný katalyzátor vztahu mezi využitím časových pravidel a partnerskou spokojeností. Typ attachmentu byl měřen pomocí dotazníku ECR-R, míra feminity/maskulinity pomocí zkrácené verze invetáře BSRI, partnerská spokojenost byla zjišťována pomocí CSI-32. K zjišťování míře využití časových pravidel ve vztahu byl vytvořen vlastní dotazník SAČP. Součástí výzkumného designu je kvalitativní část výzkumu – tematická analýza populárních článků zaměřujících se na časová pravidla a tematická analýza polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s páry na téma porozumění a využití časových pravidel v romantickém vztahu. Výsledky výzkumu popírají hypotézu, že míra využití časových pravidel souvisí s dosahovanou úrovní partnerské spokojenosti. Byl též popřen vztah mezi mírou feminity/maskulinity jedince a mírou využití časových pravidel. Byl naznačen vztah mezi délkou vztahu a mírou využití časových pravidel, souvislost věku mužů a míry využití pravidel. Dále byl též nalezen negativní vztah mezi partnerskou spokojeností žen a mírou využití pravidel. Studie potvrdila stávající teoretická východiska vzhledem k partnerské spokojenosti – femininní jedinci vykazují vyšší míru partnerské spokojenosti než jedinci maskulinní. Limita výzkumného designu a bližší interpretace výsledků jsou uvedeny v závěru práce.

Abstract:

This study is focused on the relationship between the usage of specific chronemic cues (time-related rules) in CMC and couple satisfaction of couples which are together for no longer than 1 year. Previous studies show the relationship between a level of couple satisfaction and an attachment type, moreover even with a self-reported psychological femininity and masculinity. The attachment type and the level of psychological femininity/masculinity are considered as possible catalysts of the suggested relationship. For attachment type measuring was used ECR-R, for the psychological femininity/masculinity BSRI. As a measurement tool for couple satisfaction CSI-32 was used. To measure the usage of time-related rules, the new scale (SAČP) was developed. The part of this study is also a qualitative research in a form of thematic analysis of popular articles interested in time-related rules and thematic analysis of couple interviews. Results deny the relationship between the usage of time-related rules and couple satisfaction. Neither the relationship with the type of attachment or self-reported femininity/masculinity was found. There are some evidence leading to the idea of relationship between the men age and the usage of time-related rules. The negative correlation between the time-related rules usage and women couple satisfaction was found. The study supports the previous researches in femininity and couple satisfaction as the feminine respondents tend to show higher level of couple satisfaction. The further results and limitations of the study are discussed at the end of the paper.
