Determinism from the Point of View of Instrumental Realism

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá interpretací vědeckého determinismu z pohledu instrumentálního realizmu soudobého filozofa Ladislava Kvasze. Nejdříve je instrumentální realizmus představen jako typ realizmu, který je neslučitelný s myšlenkou přímého poznání objektivní reality. Poté je tento typ realizmu porovnán s jinými typy realizmů, které jsou gnoseologicky optimističtější. Následně jsou představeny různé interpretace instrumentálního realizmu českými a slovenskými filozofy. Ve spojitosti s tímto vymezením instrumentálního realizmu jsou představeny základní epistemologické a ontologické předpoklady víry v determinismus, přičemž pozornost je zaměřena na kauzální determinismus a vztah mezi vědou a světem. Poté je ukázáno, nakolik jsou předpoklady determinismu slučitelné s předpoklady instrumentálního realizmu. Jelikož instrumentální realizmus implikuje tři druhy reality, v práci je vysvětleno, za jakých podmínek můžeme chápat objektivní svět jako deterministický a za jakých podmínek hovoříme o determinismu intersubjektivního světa.

Abstract:

A thesis deals with an interpretation of scientific determinism from the point of view of contemporary philosopher Ladislav Kvasz. To start with, there is shown instrumental realism as a type of realism, which is not compatible with a concept of direct knowledge of the objective reality. Then, there is a comparison between instrumental realism and other types of realism, which are more gnoseologically optimistic view. Thereafter, there are shown various interpretations of instrumental realism by Czech and Slovak philosophers. Related to the definition of instrumental realism, there are shown basic epistemological and ontological premises of faith in determinism, whereas there is presented causal determinism and the relation between science and reality. Then there is shown, how premises of determinism are compatible with premises of instrumental realism. As instrumental realism implies three types of reality, thesis describes, in what circumstances it is possible to understand objective reality as deterministic, and in what circumstances it is possible to understand intersubjective reality as deterministic one.
