Category of Time in the Late Work of Ladislav Fuks

Abstract:

Cílem práce je rozebrat kompoziční postupy v pozdní tvorbě Ladislava Fukse z hlediska kategorie času, kterou analyzoval Gérard Genette. Práce se nejprve věnuje teoretickému členění kategorie času na pořádek (ordre), trvání (durée) a frekvenci (fréquence). Poté tyto kompoziční prvky sleduje ve třech pozdních dílech Ladislava Fukse: Návrat z žitného pole (1974), Obraz Martina Blaskowitze (1980) a Vévodkyně a kuchařka (1984). Práce zjišťuje, jaké jsou v těchto dílech vztahy mezi přirozeným pořádkem událostí příběhu a jejich pořadím v diskursu, jak jsou zachycovány opakující se události, jaký je vztah mezi trváním prezentace událostí a trváním skutečných událostí v příběhu, čím jsou příběhy brzděny, nebo naopak zrychlovány. Na základě tohoto rozboru je normalizační Návrat z žitného pole konfrontován s dalšími dvěma prózami i s negativním postojem kritiky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis aims at the discussion of the compositional procedures used in the late work of Ladislav Fuks. It discusses these procedures in terms of category of time which was analysed by Gérard Genette. First, the thesis deals with the division of the category of time into order (ordre), duration (durée), and frequency (fréquence). Then, it studies these compositional elements in Fuks’s three late works: Návrat z žitného pole (1974), Obraz Martina Blaskowitze (1980), and Vévodkyně a kuchařka (1984). The thesis tries to find out what kinds of relations exist in these works by Fuks between the natural order of the events of the story and their sequence in the discourse; the way of presentation of repeated events; the relation between the duration of the presentation of events and the duration of real events described in the story; and, finally, what slows down or, on the contrary, accelerates the stories. On the basis of this discussion, the normalization novel Návrat z žitného pole is confronted both with the other two novels, and with the negative critical assessment.
