Aggressive and problem behaviour of mentally disabled individuals and its influence on family

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá agresivním a případně dalším problémovým chováním mentálně handicapovaných jedinců s důrazem na vliv těchto projevů na jejich rodiny. Cílem prezentované práce je prozkoumat zkušenosti rodin, které mají člena s mentálním handicapem s takovými projevy. Následně tyto zkušenosti mezi sebou porovnat v rámci jednotlivých rodin a na základě role v rodině (otcové, matky, sourozenci). Výzkum je kvalitativního charakteru a sestává z analýzy devíti polostrukturovaných rozhovorů (3 rozhovory s matkami, 3 rozhovory s otci a 3 rozhovory se sourozenci), které byly vedeny se členy rodin tří mentálně handicapovaných jedinců. Výsledky poskytují náhled do zážitků a zkušeností těchto tří rodin, přičemž situace každé z nich je specifická, což se odráží v projevech handicapovaných i v prožívání ostatních členů rodin.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis focuses on aggressive and eventually problem behaviour of mentally disabled individuals with emphases on its influence on the family. The aim of this thesis is to examine the experiences of the families with mentally disabled individual who displays such behaviour. These experiences are compared within the families and according to the role in the family system (fathers, mothers, siblings). The research is qualitative and analyses nine semi-structured interviews (3 interviews with mothers, 3 interviews with fathers and 3 interviews with siblings) with members of families of three mentally disabled individuals. The results provide insight to experiences of those three families, whereas the family situation in each of them is specific. The specificity is reflected in behaviour of the disabled and experiences of other family members.
