Effect of coolant pressure for tool life when turning titanium alloys

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce řeší vliv tlaku chladicí kapaliny na životnost obráběcího nástroje během hrubovacího soustružení titanových slitin. Cílem práce bylo otestovat nově navržený nástroj, který disponuje možností současného přívodu řezné kapaliny na čelo i hřbet kruhové vyměnitelné břitové destičky. Jedná se o unikátní technologické řešení. Nový nástroj byl porovnáván s běžně dostupným komerčním nástrojem stejné geometrie vybaveným pouze čelním přívodem řezné kapaliny. Zkoumaným a hodnoceným parametrem byla životnost nástroje, přičemž vyhodnocení životnosti bylo provedeno na základě maximálního opotřebení hřbetu. Obráběným materiálem byla titanová slitina Ti-6Al-4V. Ukázalo se, že nasazením technologie kombinovaného přívodu řezné kapaliny lze dosáhnout značeného prodloužení životnosti nástroje. V závěru jsou popsány konkrétní benefity použití této technologie včetně dosažených výsledků testování.

Abstract:

This thesis describes the impact of pressure of coolant on the service life of cutting tool during rough turning of titanium alloys. The aim of this work was to test newly designed tool, which allows simultaneous flow of cutting liquid on the face and on the flank of a circular replaceable insert. This is a unique technological solution. The new tool was compared with a commonly available commercial tool of the same geometry equipped with only a front cut fluid supply. The examined and evaluated parameters were the tool life, which was assesed on the basis of the flank wear. The machined materiál was titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. The study shows significant expansion of tool life by used combined liquid cutting technology. Specific advantages of using this technology are described in the conclusion, including the achieved testing results.
