Threats to European fen mollusc communities with attention to glacial relicts

Abstract:

Ve své disertační práci se věnuji výzkumu ekologie a hrozeb pro evropskou slatiništní malakofaunu. V první části se zabývám změnami v odezvě plžích společenstev mezi regiony s rozdílnou zachovalostí stanovišť a faktory ovlivňujícími stabilitu a resilienci stanovišť vůči sukcesi. V Druhé části se zabývám variabilitou teploty půdy na vnitrolokalitové škále a odezvou slatinišťní bioty na tuto variabilitu. V poslední části se věnuji rozšíření a ekologii tří glaciálně reliktních druhů rodu Vertigo a vazbě stanovištních specialistů na staré lokality. Výsledky jsou shrnuty v 5 studiích (a jednom manuscriptu zaslaném do redakce) publikovaných v impaktových vědeckých časopisech. Úvodní kapitola práce shrnuje výzkum provedený na minerotrofních slatiništích a klasifikaci těchto biotopů. Následující kapitoly úvodu pojednávají o výzkumu slatiništní malakofauny, především suchozemských plžů a faktory které ovlivňují jejich druhové složení a bohatost. Poslední část úvodu je věnována faktorům, které slatiniště ohrožují. Disertace dále obsahuje cíle práce, stručnou metodologii, shrnutí výsledků a závěr. Na konci práce je uveden můj životopis, publikované články (zahrnuté jen v tištěné verzi, jelikož jsou chráněné copyrightem) a zaslaný manuskript týkající se disertace.

Abstract:

In my dissertation, I focus on the threats to European fen mollusc communities (especially land snails) and their ecology. The first part aims to investigate the differences in the response of land snail communities in regions with different habitat conservation status and factors influencing fen stability and succession over time. The second part deals with soil temperature in spring fens and the biotic response to it on within-site scale. In the last part, I investigate the distribution and ecology of three glacial relic species of the genus Vertigo and the fidelity of spring fen habitat specialists to long-existing sites. The results are summarized in six studies published (or in the case of the Manuscript 5, submitted to a journal) in peer-reviewed scientific journals with impact factor. The introductory chapter summarizes the research on minerotrophic fens and includes a classification and European distribution. The following sections of the introduction summarize knowledge on spring fen molluscs, particularly the land snails, with main drivers of species composition and richness. Final part of the introduction is focused on threats to fens. The introductory section part is followed by the aims of the thesis, a brief methodology, summary of the main results published (or submitted) in the research papers and conclusions. The last part contains my curriculum vitae and published papers (only in printed version, as they are protected by copyright) and one submitted manuscript related to the thesis.
