Similarities and differences in dream content in primary school children

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce Podobnosti a rozdíly v obsahu snů na základní škole byla identifikace podobností a rozdílů v obsahu snů mezi žáky na prvním a druhém stupni základní školy. Výzkum byl zpracován kvantitativní formou a testovou metodou zvolenou pro sběr dat bylo dotazníkové šetření. Získaná data byla analyzována pomocí Hall/Van de Castle systému kvantitativní analýzy obsahu snů a zpracována prostřednictvím deskriptivní a neparametrické statistiky. K zamítnutí či potvrzení stanovené hypotézy: "Sny dětí na prvním stupni ZŠ se budou statisticky významně lišit svým obsahem od snů dětí na druhém stupni ZŠ.", byl využit chí-kvadrát test. Hypotéza byla zamítnuta. Obsah snů se u dětí mezi stupni lišil. Tyto rozdíly však nebyly dostatečně statisticky významné k potvrzení stanovené hypotézy. Dále jsme odpovídali na 4 stanovené dílčí výzkumné otázky, které se zabývaly vlivem věku žáka na schopnost vybavení si snu; na výskyt agresivních interakcí, známých a neznámých postav a na míru výskytu odkazů na tělo v obsahu snů žáka. Z výzkumu vyplývá, že věk má vliv na vybavování snů. 98 % žáků prvního stupně si své sny bylo schopno vybavit. Z žáků z druhého stupně si bylo schopno své sny vybavit 63 %. V případě výskytu známých a neznámých osob se u dětí prvního stupně známé postavy vyskytují z 30 % a neznámé z 5 %. U dětí druhého stupně se známé postavy vyskytují z 33 % a procento neznámých osob roste na 12 %. Výskyt agresivních interakcí bylo u dětí z prvního stupně zaznamenáno z 14 %. Na druhém stupni byl výskyt agresivních interakcí 19 %. Co se týče výskytu odkazů na tělo se u dětí na prvním stupni vyskytlo z 2 %, zatímco u dětí druhého stupně se výskyt odkazů na tělo pohybuje kolem 5 %.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis Similarities and Differences in Dream Content in Primary School children was to identify similarities and differences in dream content among students in primary and lower secondary school. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, with questionnaire survey chosen as the test method for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using the Hall/Van de Castle System of Quantitative Dream Content Analysis and processed through descriptive and non-parametric statistics. The hypothesis: "The dreams of children in primary school will statistically significantly differ in content from the dreams of children in lower secondary school" was tested using the chi-square test and rejected. While there were differences in dream content among children across stages, these differences were not statistically significant enough to confirm the hypothesis. Furthermore, four specified research questions were addressed, focusing on the influence of the student's age on dream recall ability: the occurrence of aggressive interactions, known and unknown characters, and the extent of body references in dream content. The research findings indicate that age influences dream recall ability. 98% of children in primary school were able to recall their dreams compared to students in lower secondary school of which 63% was able to recall their dreams. Regarding the occurrence of known and unknown characters, in primary school children, known characters appeared in 30%, and unknown characters in 5%. In lower secondary school children, known characters appeared in 33 %, with the percentage of unknown characters rising to 12 %. The occurrence of aggressive interactions in primary school children was recorded in 14% of dreams and 19 % was recorded in dreams of lower secondary school children. Concerning body references, they appeared in 2% of dreams in primary school children, while in lower secondary school children, the occurrence of body references ranged around 5%.
