Relationship between Presidential and Legislative Elections in Latin American Presidential Systems

Anotácia:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem volebních systémů používaných pro prezidentské a parlamentní volby v jihoamerických prezidentských režimech a jejich vlivem na stranický systém těchto zemí. Cílem práce je přezkoušet teorii autorů Shugarta a Careyho, která se týká tohoto vzájemném vztahu. Teorie je testována na vzorku sedmi jihoamerických zemí v ohraničeném časovém období od začátku devadesátých let dvacátého století do současnosti. Ve výzkumu jsou použity zejména kvalitativní metody jako například komparativní metoda.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the relationship between electoral systems used both for the executive and legislative election in Latin American presidentialism and its impact on party systems in these countries. The main goal of this text is to examine and verify the theory of Shugart and Carey which concerns this relationship.The theory is being tested on the sample of seven Latin American countries in a determined period of time from the early nineties untill now. The reaseach includes several methods, among them qualitative methods such as comparative method.
