America in Allen Ginsberg´s Poetry

Abstract:

The focus of the thesis is a depiction of the United States in poetry of Allen Ginsberg. The theoretical part deals with the poet's literary work within the context of production of the Beat Generation, and outlines main sources of inspiration and influences shaping Ginsberg's life philosophy and poetics. Relevant information about Ginsberg's involvement in political and social events driven by his personal beliefs concerning war, homosexuality and others is also included. The second part of the thesis is based on analyses of selected poems by Ginsberg as representatives of his attitudes towards American society and the U.S. establishment. It also tries to explore Ginsberg's ideals of humanity and values that he adhered in life most.

Abstract:

Cílem práce je vyobrazení USA v poezii Allen Ginsberga. Teoretická část pojednává o básníkově literární činnosti v kontextu s produkcí blažené generace a nastiňuje hlavní zdroje inspirace a vlivů, které se podílely na formování Ginsbergovy životní filozofie a poetiky. Důležité informace spojené s Ginsbergovými aktivitami v souvislosti s politickým a sociálním děním jsou také součástí práce. Druhá část práce se věnuje analýzám vybraných básni, které představují básníkovy postoje vůči Americké společnosti a politickému zřízení. Tato část je také snahou o prozkoumání Ginsbergových ideálů lidskosti a hodnot, kterých si v životě vážil nejvíce.
