The Relationship between self-Esteem and the Formation of Intimate and Partner Relationships Among Emerging Adults

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání vztahu mezi self-esteem a formová-ním intimních a partnerských vztahů u vynořujících se dospělých. Cílem bylo zjistit, jakou souvislost má míra self-esteem a způsoby seznamování a volby typů vztahů. Metodologie zahrnovala sběr dat pomocí online dotazníků rozšířených prostřednictvím sociálních sítí a metody sněhové koule, s následnou analýzou pomocí ordinální a binární logistické regrese. Hlavní zjištění ukazují, že self-esteem nemá významnou souvislost ani na způsoby seznamování, ani na volbu typů vztahů, a to ani po přidání kontrolní proměnné věku. Závěry tedy naznačují, že jiné faktory mohou hrát větší roli ve výběru intimních a partnerských vztahů mezi vynořujícími se dospělými. Přestože byl model schopen správně předpovědět 78,9 % případů, jeho schopnost rozlišovat mezi různými typy vztahů byla omezená. Tato studie přináší nový pohled na význam self-esteem v kontextu moderních seznamovacích trendů a dynamiky vztahů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on examining the relationship between self-esteem and the formation of intimate and partner relationships among emerging adults. The aim was to explore the relationship between self-esteem and dating patterns and choice of relationship types. Methodology included data collection using online questionnaires distributed via social networking sites and the snowball method, followed by analysis using ordinal and binary logistic regression. The main findings show that self-esteem is not significantly related to either dating patterns or choice of relation-ship types, even after adding the control variable of age. Thus, the findings suggest that other factors may play a larger role in the choice of intimate and partner rela-tionships among emerging adults. Although the model was able to correctly predict 78.9% of the cases, its ability to discriminate between different types of relation-ships was limited. This study provides new insight into the importance of self-esteem in the context of modern dating trends and relationship dynamics.
