The effect of air temperature on resting behaviour and milk production in Holstein dairy cows

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce bylo objasnit efekt teploty stájového vzduchu na odpočinkové chování a mléčnou užitkovost dojnic holštýnského skotu. Odpočinkové chování bylo specifikováno frekvencí ležení a stání, u ležících dojnic pak preference levého a pravého boku. Mezi parametry mléčné užitkovosti byly zahrnuty především dojivost (kg mléka), pořadí laktace (n) a fáze laktace (dny). Pozorování proběhlo na Školním zemědělském podniku v Žabčicích, a to v zimě (únor) a na podzim (září) roku 2020. Celkem bylo vyhodnoceno 438 individuálních případů. Během celého sledování u ležících dojnic (n = 189 dojnic) byl více preferován levý bok (109 případů), než bok pravý (80 případů). Tato preference byla v zimě statisticky vysoce průkazná (p < 0,01). Vliv teploty stájového vzduchu, ve vztahu k dojivosti, nebyl statisticky průkazný (p > 0,05), přesto měly dojnice v zimě vyšší dojivost (39,4 kg mléka) než na podzim (38,7 kg mléka). Preference boxové řady, ve vztahu k pořadí laktace, byla statisticky vysoce průkazná (p < 0,01). Nejstarší (n = 4,07) dojnice preferovaly řadu nejdále od krmného stolu naopak nejmladší (n = 3,13) dojnice se nacházely v době sledování mimo boxy.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to clarify the effect of air temperature on resting behaviour and milk production in Holstein dairy cows. The resting behaviour was specified by the frequency of lying and standing, for lying dairy cows were specified the preference of the left side and the right side. The parameters of milk production mainly included milk yield (kg of milk), stage of lactation (n) and lactation phase (days). The experiment was carried out in 2020 at the university farm in Žabčice once in the winter (February) and once in the autumn (September). A total of 438 individual cases were evaluated. The aim of the thesis was to clarify the effect of air temperature on resting behaviour and milk production in Holstein dairy cows. The resting behaviour was specified by the frequency of lying and standing, for lying dairy cows were specified the preference of the left side and the right side. The parameters of milk production mainly included milk yield (kg of milk), stage of lactation (n) and lactation phase (days). The experiment was carried out in 2020 at the university farm in Žabčice once in the winter (February) and once in the autumn (September). A total of 438 individual cases were evaluated. Throughout the whole experiment lying dairy cows (n = 189 cases) preferred more the left side (109 cases) than the right side (80 cases). This preference was statistically highly conclusive (p < 0,01) in the winter. The effect of air temperature didn’t have statistically high influence (p > 0,05) in relation to milk yield yet the dairy cows had higher milk yield (39,4 kg of milk) in the winter than in the autumn (38,7 kg of milk). The preference for cubi-cle row in relation to stage of lactation was statistically highly conclusive (p < 0,01). The old-est (n = 4,07) dairy cows preferred the cubicle row furthest from the feed table. In contrast the youngest (n = 3,13) dairy cows during the experiment mostly preferred being outside the cubicle row.
