Relative age effect in categories U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19 and adult teams of clubs playing in the highest Czech football competition

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, zda se v dospělých týmech mužů hrající nejvyšší českou fotbalovou soutěž vyskytuje Relative Age Effect. Cílem je také zjistit, zda se tento efekt vyskytuje v dorosteneckých mužstvech těchto týmů. Úkolem práce je rozdělit všechny hráče v týmech dorostů a mužů podle měsíce narození do jednotlivých kvartálů a porovnat proporcionalitu mezi těmito skupinami. V teoretické části práce vysvětlujeme pojem Relative Age Effect, zabýváme se jeho historií ve sportu i fotbale a rozebíráme současné výzkumy. Popisujeme možné příčiny vzniku tohoto vlivu v návaznosti na herní výkon jedince ve fotbale a ontogenetický vývoj hráčů. Zjišťujeme možnosti řešení působení tohoto vlivu. V empirické části této práce uvádíme výsledky výzkumu vlivu Relative Age Effect v týmech mužů a dorostů klubů hrající nejvyšší českou fotbalovou soutěž v sezóně 2023/2024. Tyto výsledky popisujeme pomocí grafů a tabulek, diskutujeme o nich a uvádíme vlastní možná řešení.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out whether the Relative Age Effect occurs in adult male teams playing the highest Czech football competition. The aim is also to find out whether this effect occurs in the youth teams of these teams. The task of the thesis is to divide all players in the youth and men's teams by month of birth into different quarters and to compare the proportionality between these groups. In the theoretical part of the thesis we explain the concept of Relative Age Effect, discuss its history in sport and football and discuss the current research. We describe the possible causes of this effect in relation to the playing performance of individuals in football and the ontogenetic development of players. We identify possible solutions to the effect of this influence. In the empirical part of this paper we present the results of the research on the Relative Age Effect in men's and youth teams of clubs playing the highest Czech football competition in the 2023/2024 season. We describe these results using graphs and tables, discuss them and present our own possible solutions.
