Tors and associated landforms in the summit parts of Hornosvratecká vrchovina (Highland)

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on three sites in Hornosvratecká vrchovina (highland), where summit rock formations (tors) were found. The research aimed to acquire information about the factors and processes that influenced their development and appearance in the youngest Quaternary and to search for relations between the findings. Methodologically, the research is based on rock hardness measurements using Shmidt hammer, structural rock joint measurements with a geological compass, granulometric analysis and simple geomorphological large-scale mapping of the sites. The obtained data were processed and compared within individual localities and subsequently used as a basis for comparing these sites with each other. The research showed that the monitored parameters (rock hardness, internal rock structure and joint spacing) together with conditions of the environment are the defining factors for the development of tors and surrounding forms, which might be helpful in the reconstruction of the landscape development in the past and also prediction of its further development. The shape of the tors proved to be closely related to the orientation, the density of the joint system and the degree of weathering of the tor and its separate, individual parts. Rock hardness of the tor walls and weathering stage depend on many factors – age, exposure, lithology and location within the rock formations. The conclusions of this thesis are general but complex – they facilitate the process of cognition of similar tor sites in a broad context and may arouse interest in closer research of these rock forms.

Abstract:

V práci byly sledovány tři lokality periglaciálních vrcholových skalních útvarů (torů) v Hornosvratecké vrchovině. Cílem výzkumu bylo získat co nejdetailnější informace o faktorech a pochodech, které ovlivnily jejich vývoj a podobu v nejmladším kvartéru a hledat vztahy mezi zjištěnými skutečnostmi. Metodicky se práce opírá o tvrdostní měření Schmidtovým tvrdoměrným kladívkem, strukturní měření geologickým kompasem, granulometrické analýzy a jednoduché geomorfologické mapování lokalit. Zjištěná data byla zpracována a porovnána v rámci jednotlivých lokalit a následně posloužila jako podklad pro porovnání těchto lokalit mezi sebou navzájem. Výzkum ukázal, že sledované parametry (tvrdost skalních stěn, vnitřní struktura) spolu s podmínkami prostředí jsou definujícími faktory pro vývoj toru a okolních tvarů, což může být nápomocné při rekonstrukci vývoje reliéfu. Tvar torů se ukázal jako úzce spjat s orientací a hustotou puklinového systému a stupněm navětrání torů a jejich jednotlivých částí. Tvrdost skalních stěn a stadium zvětrávání se odvíjí od mnoha faktorů – věku, expozice, litologie a polohy v rámci skalního útvaru. Závěry práce jsou sice obecné, ale komplexní – otevírají cestu k poznání podobných lokalit v širokých souvislostech a mohou vzbudit zájem o bližší zkoumání torů.
