Changes in the approach to pregnancy and childbirth in the period of socialism and today

Abstract:

V období postsocialismu se změny ve společnosti projevují v mnoha oblastech, i ve způsobu příchodu člověka na svět. Práce zaměřená na zkoumání každodennosti si klade za cíl charakterizovat z pohledu rodiček těhotenství, přístup k porodu a samotný porod v období socialismu, kdy ženy rodily téměř bez výjimky v porodnicích. Současně se zaměřuje na změny, ke kterým došlo v období postsocialismu a reflektuje ty největší změny, které v této oblasti nastaly: snaha rodiček o sebevzdělávání v této oblasti, změna ve vztahu k lékařům a k porodům v porodnici, přání rodit v domácím prostředí aj. Výzkum pomocí metody oral history ukázal, že dnešní ženy jsou na porod připraveny jinak a jinak ho prožívají. Došlo k odtabuizování intimních témat. Práce je sondou do málo probádané problematiky.

Abstract:

In the post-Socialist period the changes in the society became evident in many spheres even in the way of coming into the world. The work oriented on research of everyday life, sets itself the aim of describing the childbirth itself, the pregnancy from the point of view of the expectant mothers and the approach to the childbirth from the point of view of the women, who gave birth in the period of socialism, when women used to bring children into the world in hospitals. At the same time the work concentrates itself on changes which occured in the post-Socialist period and it shows the biggest changes, that occured in this sphere: The effort of the expectant mothers to educate themselves in this sphere, the change in the approach to doctors and childbirth in maternity clinics, the wish to give birth at home. The research using the oral history method showed, that today´s women are prepared for giving birth in a differentn way and that their experience of birth is different. Many intimate matters stopped being taboo. This work is a canvassing on a not very explored matter.
