In search of Renard dans le nom: translatological analysis and translation a novel by Richard Millet

Abstract:

Presented dissertation thesis is focused on work of French writer Richard Millet, mainly on his novel Le renard dans le nom. Thesis itself is composed of three parts - first two (analytic and traductological) belong to theoretical essay, the third part is based on translation of first three chapters of the above mentioned work from French to Czech. Theoretical part provides a glimpse both into author's life and a literary context of the work, followed by analysis of the text itself (questions of genre, style, motive, storyteller, ...) and traductological part of work, where there is stylistic and lexical analysis of the text accompanied by a commentary to chosen translation methods. Inseparable part of work is a short treatise about translation theory and methods and also contemplation about question of translatability and conversion of a text from one language to another as such.

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce se soustředí na dílo francouzského spisovatele Richarda Milleta, především na jeho román Le renard dans le nom. Samotná práce se skládá ze tří částí – první dvě (analytická a traduktolgická) spadají do teoretického pojednání, třetí tvoří překlad prvních tří kapitol výše zmíněného díla z francouzštiny do češtiny. Teoretická část dává nahlédnout jak do života autora, tak do literárního kontextu díla, za nímž následuje rozbor vlastního textu (otázky žánru, stylu, motivů, vypravěče…) a dále traduktologická část práce, kde se objevuje stylistická a lexikální analýza textu doplněná o komentář ke zvoleným překladatelským postupům. Nedílnou součástí práce je krátké pojednání o teorii překládání a překladatelských postupech a také zamyšlení se nad otázkou přeložitelnosti a převodu textu z jazyka do jazyka vůbec.
