Discourse analysis of Turgut Özals approach towards the Turkish economic situation after the state coup in 1980

Předmětem bakalářské práce je diskurzivní analýza postoje tureckého premiéra a prezidenta Turguta Özala k turecké ekonomické situaci po státním převratu v roce 1980. Práce je zaměřena na období vlády premiéra a prezidenta Turguta Özala v letech 1980 až 1993. Turecká zahraniční politika je silně ovlivněna její geografickou polohou a historickou zkušeností s evropskými mocnostmi. Základním předpokladem diskurzivní analýzy je turecká solidarita se Západem, vztahující se k Özalově prozápadní orientaci a aspiracím na vstup do Evropské unie, jako je posun k demokracii, vestfálský systém a vztahy s nejbližšími sousedy. Vzhledem k poloze státu je Turecká republika významným regionálním hráčem v mezinárodním systému. Práce zkoumá dominantní diskurs v této práci: Liberalizace trhu jako jediné řešení pro Turecko a zároveň zkoumá subdominantní diskurz: Demokracie jako "bargaining chip" pro vstup do zahraničních struktur. Bakalářská práce je zpracována ve formě výzkumné práce.

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor's thesis is the discursive analysis of the attitude of the Turkish prime minister and president Turgut Özal towards the Turkish economic situation after the state coup in 1980. The work is focused on the period of the reign of Prime minister and President Turgut Özal between the years 1980 and 1993. Turkish foreign policy is strongly influenced by its geographical location and historical experience with European powers. The basic premise of the discursive analysis is Turkish solidarity with the West, relating to Özals pro-Western orientation and aspirations to join the European union, such as shift to democracy, Westphalian system, and relations with proximate neighbours. Due to the location of the state, the Republic of Turkey is an important regional player in the international system. The thesis examines the dominant discourse in this work: Liberalisation of the market as the only solution for Turkey while also also exploring the subdominant discourse: Democracy as a bargaining chip to join foreign structures. The bachelor thesis is prepared in the form of a research paper.
