Validization study of the Continuous performance test - identical pairs (CPT-IP) in patients with schizophrenia

Abstract:

Tato práce si dala za cíl zhodnotit validitu a reliabilitu Testu zaměřené pozornosti – identické páry (CPT-IP), který se používá k měření zaměřené pozornosti u osob se schizofrenií jako součást kognitivní baterie MATRICS. Předkládaná studie je součástí validizace celé této baterie probíhající v Praze na Karlově univerzitě. CPT-IP se skládá ze dvou – až čtyřciferných čísel rozdělených do 3 částí, které fungují jako stimuly pro respondenta. Metoda: Do studie bylo zapojeno 371 osob, kteří byli rozděleni podle diagnózy, pohlaví, věku a vzdělání. Všem byla administrována baterie MATRICS a dotazník s demografickými údaji. Statisticky zpracovaná data porovnávají výsledky zkoumaných osob z hlediska jmenovaných faktorů. Výsledky: Porovnání výsledků z hlediska diagnózy, věku a vzdělání ukázalo signifikantní rozdíly na hladině významnosti p <0.005 a faktor pohlaví p <0.05. Interakce dvojic faktorů byly signifikantní jen u vztahu věku a vzdělání. Reliabilita testu CPT-IP je dostačující, hodnota test-retestové reliability odpovídá hodnotě r=.771. Diskuze: Studie ukázala, že CPT-IP je dobře zkonstruovaný test, který rozlišuje mezi výkony zdravých osob a klinické skupiny. Zároveň ukázalo signifikantní rozdíly i u ostatních faktorů. Potvrdilo se, že čím je osoba starší, tím horší výsledek získá. Z hlediska vzdělání platí, že více let vzdělání souvisí s lepším výkonem, a nakonec faktor pohlaví ukázal, že ženy skórovaly lépe než muži.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to evaluate validity and reliability of Continuous Performance Test – Identical Pairs (CPT-IP) that is used as a measurement of sustained attention among people with schizophrenia as a part of cognitive battery MATRICS. This study is connected to validation study of the whole battery that is ongoing in Prague at Charles University. CPT-IP contains 2 to 4-digits numbers divided into 3 subtasks that provide stimuli for participants. Method: 371 participants were recruited to the study. They were divided due to diagnosis, gender, age and education. The whole battery MATRICS and demographic questionnaire were assessed to participants. Statistical data compare results of all participants according to those factors. Results: The comparison of performance in factors diagnosis, age and education showed significant differences p <.005 and factor gender p <.05. Interaction of factor couples was significant just in case of age and education. Reliability of CPT-IP is sufficient, the level of test-retest reliability was estimated as r=.771. Conclusions: Study showed that CPT-IP is well-established measurement that can discriminate between performance of healthy controls and clinical group. Also, it showed significant differences among other factors. It was confirmed that the older participant is, the worse score he has. According to education we can say that the more years of education participant has, the better performance he scores and finally, factor gender showed that women scored better than men.
