Perception of the Dead and Sources of Impurity Demonstrated on the Burial Rites of "Impure Deads"

Abstract:

Hlavní myšlenkou práce je zamyšlení se nad konceptem "nečistí zemřelí", jak ho můžeme nalézt v odborné, převážně historicko-etnologické literatuře. Mým cílem je pokusit se najít možné zdroje této "nečistoty", která se explicitně projevuje především ve způsobu zacházení s mrtvými a v reprezentacích jejich posmrtného života. Pro tento účel jsem použila mezioborové teorie, které se primárně tématem nečistoty zabývají. Kognitivní přístupy upřednostňují intuitivní dispozice pro vnímání mrtvého těla jako nečistého, antropologie objasňuje tuto nečistotu v poměru ke společenské struktuře a řádu a v neposlední řadě historie uchopuje fenomén nečistoty mrtvých v závislosti na daných sociokulturních podmínkách. Existence "nečistoty" (zemřelých) pak nabízí velice šiřoký interpretační rámec, který může být motivující pro další nejen religionistický výzkum.

Abstract:

The keynote of the thesis is the concept of the "impure deads", which scientists apply to the heterogeneous group of the departeds. My principal aim is try to find some sources of this impurity. Firstly, in the human mind, it means how can cognitive architecture product the intuitions of the impurity of the dead body. Secondly, in the religious, historical and cultural conditions. It includes the attempt to account of processes of the generating the representations of impurity in their culturaly context. To this purpose I use some scientific theories from the cognitive, anthroplogical, historical, ethnological and psychological domains. Each of them „goes another way“. That is why we can interpret "impure deaths" in a number of ways: as a outcome of "other" social statut, as a social danger to community, the result of human reasoning or the intuitive and natural capacity of human mind and the part of evolution etc. Then, the impurity (in relation to dead body) provides number of the explication and the reasearch possibilities.
