Chance as a Motif in Homo Faber by Frisch and Unbearable Lightness of Being by Kundera

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the motive of coincidence in the work of Max Frisch "Homo Faber" and Milan Kundera "Nesnesitelná lehkost bytí" (The Unbearable Lightness of Being). It analyses the literal function of coincidence factor in the human development of the main characters of these two novels and focuses on their perception of the coincidence - how they perceive it in its devastating impact on their lives, how they interpret it, how they develop and what conclusions they draw from these situations. The thesis studies the intentional use of the coincidence motive from the author´s perspective so that the false values of the main characters can be recognized and changed.

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje motivu náhody v dílech Maxe Frische "Homo Faber" a Milana Kundery "Nesnesitelná lehkost bytí". Zkoumá jeho literární funkci v kontextu lidského vývoje hlavních hrdinů těchto románů a jejich vnímání tohoto náhodnému elementu, při devastujícím dopadu ne jejich životy, jeho interpretace a vyvození závěrů. Z perspektivy autora zkoumá jeho cílené a záměrné použití za účelem demaskování falešných hodnot hrdinů a jejich prozření.
