Fostering a Knowledge-Based Economy: Key Drivers for Growth

Abstract:

Education has risen to the forefront of national agendas throughout the globe as countries have begun to appreciate its central role in their economic growth and development. Due to economic unpredictability and a lack of financial resources, some countries are unable to carry out long-lasting innovative reforms and entrepreneurial activities to achieve competitive knowledge-based economic outcomes. This study aims to determine how education influences the success of entrepreneurship and the growth of economies in both developed and developing countries. The results of a number of empirical studies comparing various models and factors' effects on economic development indicate that differences in economic growth across countries can be linked to innovation and entrepreneurship. The findings also indicate a favourable correlation between regional GDP per capita and gross expenditure on R&D and employment in knowledge-intensive sectors.
