Study of Phosphate and Borophosphate Glasses Containing In\dindex{2}O\dindex{3}

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá přípravou fosfátových a borofosfátových skel s obsahem In2O3, studiem jejich struktury pomocí Ramanovy spektroskopie a MAS NMR spektroskopie, zjišťováním jejich základních fyzikálně-chemických vlastností a studiem jejich termického chování pomocí tepelně-vodivostní DSC, termodilatometrie a vysokoteplotní mikroskopie. Celkem bylo připraveno 16 vzorků homogenních skel ve čtyřech kompozičních řadách: A: (50-x)ZnO-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (x = 0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 30); B: 30ZnO-(20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (x = 0; 5; 10; 15; 20); C: 30PbO-(20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (x = 0; 5; 10; 15; 20) a D: (50- x)ZnO-xY2O3-50P2O5,(x = 0; 5). Z MAS NMR spekter jader 31P vyplynulo, že v kompoziční řadě 30ZnO-(20-x)B2O3- xIn2O3-50P2O5 (řada B) dochází k postupné transformaci fosfátových celků v pořadí (Q3 ?) Q2 ? Q1 ? Q0 s rostoucím obsahem In2O3. S přídavky inditého dochází k postupné depolymerizaci fosfátové strukturní sítě, spojené s transformaci celků typu Q2 na celky Q1, také v ostatních kompozičních řadách, jak ukázala Ramanova spektra. Rozdíl ve struktuře skel obsahujících 5 mol% In2O3 nebo 5 mol% Y2O3 je minimální. NMR spektra jader 11B skel kompoziční řady B ukázala, že se indium do skelné strukturní sítě zabudovává, zejména prostřednictvím vazeb P-O-In. Studium fyzikálně-chemických vlastností ukázalo, že při zvyšování obsahu In2O3 (Y2O3) roste měrná hmotnost skel a jejich molární objem skel v kompozičních řadách A, C a D, u skel řady B byly změny molárního objemu s rostoucím obsahem oxidu inditého malé. Nejnižší chemická odolnost vůči vodě byla zjištěna u zinečnatéto metafosfátového skla. Při záměně ZnO za In2O3 v kompoziční řadě A se chemická odolnost skel zvyšovala, stejně tak jako při záměně ZnO za Y2O3 v řadě D. Chemická odolnost skel připravených v borofosfátových kompozičních řadách 30ZnO-(20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (B) a 30PbO- (20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (C) byla vysoká a v rámci vzájemné záměny obou trojmocných oxidů (B2O3 a In2O3) skel se příliš neměnila. Z výsledků tepelně-vodivostní DSC vyplynulo, že některá skla resp. jejich podchlazené taveniny krystalizují. V kompoziční řadě A: (50-x)ZnO-xIn2O3-50P2O5, byla nejvyšší termická stabilita zjištěna u vzorku s obsahem 5 mol% In2O3. Vysokou termickou stabilitu vykazuje také většina skel připravených ve zbývajících kompozičních řadách. Obdobné rozdíly v termické stabilitě byly zjištěny také pomocí vysokoteplotní mikroskopie. Z rentgenové difrakční analýzy vyplynulo, že produktem krystalizace jsou fáze Zn(PO3)2, Zn2(P2O7)2, InP3O9, Pb2InP3O11, Y(PO3)3 a v případě borofosfátových kompoziční řad také BPO4. Z DSC a TD křivek dále vyplynulo, že teplotní roztažnost skel klesá se zvyšujícím se obsahem In2O3 (Y2O3). Teplota skelné transformace s rostoucím obsahem In2O3 (Y2O3) v řadách A, C a D naopak stoupá, v řadě 30ZnO-(20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (B) se téměř nemění. Obdobné závislosti byly zjištěny také u dilatometrické teploty měknutí. Ze studia termického chování skel 50ZnO-50P2O5 (A) a 30ZnO-20In2O3-50P2O5 (A) dále vyplynulo, že u obou vzorků převládá povrchový mechanismus nukleace (krystalizace) nad mechanismem objemovým. Vyšší podíl objemové nukleace byl zjištěn u skla 50ZnO-50P2O5. Studium nukleační rychlosti ukázalo, že u vzorku 50ZnO-50P2O5 vznikají stabilní nukleační zárodky při vyšších nukleačních teplotách a po delších nukleacích časech než u vzorku 30ZnO-20In2O3-50P2O5.

Abstract:

In this thesis the structure, physico-chemical properties and thermal behaviour of In2O3 containing phosphate and borophosphate glasses were investigated. Fourteen homogeneous glass samples (and two semicrystalline) were prepared in four compositional series: A: (50- x)ZnO-xIn2O3-50P2O5, (x = 0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 30); B: 30ZnO-(20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5, (x = 0; 5; 10; 15; 20); C: 30PbO-(20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5, (x = 0; 5; 10; 15; 20) a D: (50- x)ZnO-xY2O3-50P2O5, (x = 0; 5). The structure of the glasses was studied by Raman, 31P and 11B MAS NMR spectroscopy, thermal behaviour of the glasses was studied using DSC, TD and HMTA methods. The 31P MAS NMR spectra of the glasses prepared in the compositional series 30ZnO- (20-x)B2O3-xIn2O3-50P2O5 (series B) showed gradual transformation of phosphate structural units from Q2 (metaphosphate) units to Q1 (diphosphate) units up to Q0 (orthophosphate) units with the increasing In2O3 content. Raman spectra showed, that the depolymerisation of the structural network and the transformation of Q2 units up to Q1 units with the increasing In2O3 proceeded also in the glass series A and C. The 11B MAS NMR spectra showed that indium is incorporated to the glass structure through the P-O-In bonds. The glass density and molar volume increase linearly with increasing In2O3 content in the series A, C and D, whereas in the compositional series B is molar volume practically constant. The lowest chemical durability against water corrosion was observed for the glass with composition 50ZnO-50P2O5, but with replacement ZnO by In2O3 (Y2O3) in the compositional series A and D, chemical durability of glasses steeply increases. The glasses containing both In2O3 and B2O3 in the compositional series C and D reveal high chemical durability. Thermal studies showed that some of prepared glasses crystallize under heating. The lowest tendency towards crystallization has the glass with composition 45ZnO-5In2O3- 50P2O5. The major compounds formed by glass crystallization were Zn(PO3)2, Zn2(P2O7)2, InP3O9, Pb2InP3O11, Y(PO3)3 and BPO4. The glass transition temperature and dilatometric softening temperature increases with increasing In2O3 (Y2O3) in the A, C and D series, whereas thermal expansion of these glasses decreases. The study of nucleation mechanism and nucleation rate of the 50ZnO-50P2O5 and 30ZnO-20In2O3-50P2O5 glasses showed, that surface nucleation mechanism prevails over the internal one. Higher contribution of internal crystallization mechanism was found in the 50ZnO-50P2O5 glass. The study of nucleation rate of the 50ZnO-50P2O5 a 30ZnO-20In2O3- 50P2O5 glass showed that the stable nuclei are formed at the temperatures close to Tg, nevertheless for the 50ZnO-50P2O5 glass the maximum of nucleation rate is shifted towards crystallization temperature and the nucleation time increases.
