The Language Acquisition: The Issues in Self-Perception and Self-Identity of Bilingual/Multilingual People

Abstract:

The focus of the bachelor thesis will be bilingualism and multilingualism. It will also aim at understanding the identity and participation of multilingual people in society. In the theoretical part, the terms bilingualism and multilingualism will be introduced. These two concepts will be described in terms of linguistics, neuro-psychology and anthropology. The work will explain the history, present the most important phenomena from the point of view of the upbringing of such an individual, and also explain and contrast leading theories that have helped advance the study of bilingual and multilingual people. In the research part, the socio-cultural readiness and adaptability of the researched subjects will primarily be examined in the form of questionnaires, and secondarily the veracity of theories and processes arising in the upbringing of multilingual children to mature individuals will be verified. In a minority, the overall socio-linguistic competences of such subjects will be examined.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce bude zaměřena na bilingvismus a multilingvismus. Dále bude cílit na pochopení identity a zapojení multilingvních lidí do společnosti. V teoretické části budou představeny pojmy bilingvismus a multilingvismus. Tyto dva pojmy budou popsány z hlediska lingvistiky, neuro-psychologie a antropologie. V práci bude vysvětlena historie, představeny nejdůležitější fenomény z hlediska výchovy takového jedince a také vysvětleny a postaveny proti sobě přední teorie, které pomohli posunout studia bilingvních a multilingvních lidí. V praktické části bude primárně formou dotazníků zkoumána sociálně-kulturní připravenost a adaptibilita zkoumaných subjektů a sekundárně dojde k ověření pravdivosti teorií a procesů vznikající při výchově multilingvních dětí po vyspělé jedince. Minoritně dojde ke zkoumání celkových sociálně-lingvistických kompetencí takových subjektů.
