The three stars of Prague publishing houses in golden period of the Czech modern culture at the turn of the 19th and 20th century - characteristics and value of Otto's, Topič's and Vilímek's publishing houses

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Trojhvězdí pražských nakladatelských domů zlaté éry české novodobé kultury přelomu 19. a 20. století - charakteristika a význam Ottova, Topičova a Vilímkova nakladatelství“ pojednává o nakladatelských domech J. Otty, F. Topiče a Jos. R. Vilímka ml. Cílem práce je odpovědět na otázky, jak se daná nakladatelství odlišují, případně shodují, a jaký byl jejich význam pro českou kulturu. Na začátku práce nastiňuji situaci v 19. století a charakterizuji zlatou éru české novodobé kultury. Dále se zabývám již pouze výše zmíněnými nakladatelstvími. Každému nakladatelství je věnována samostatná kapitola, přičemž na každé z nich aplikuji čtyři hlavní kategorie (vznik nakladatelství, osobnost nakladatele, produkce nakladatelství, reklama a propagace nakladatelství) a několik podkategorií. V předposlední kapitole jsou nakladatelství dle zvolených kategorií srovnávána, v závěru pak, na základě zjištěné charakteristiky, stanovuji jejich význam pro českou kulturu. Z časového hlediska se nakladatelstvími zabývám pouze po dobu života ústředních nakladatelů.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis „The three stars of Prague publishing houses in golden period of the Czech modern culture at the turn of the 19 th and 20 th century - characteristics and value of Otto´s, Topič´s and Vilímek´s publishing houses“ deals with Oto´s, Topič´s and Vilímek´s publishing houses. The goal of this thesis is to answer two questions, namely what are the differences among these publishing houses or in which ways they are the same, and what was their importance for Czech culture.In the beginning I sketch the situation in the 19th century and I characterize the golden period of the Czech modern culture. Then I only engage in the three publishing houses mentioned above. Every publishing house has a special chapter, whereas four main categories (the birth of the publishing house, the personality of the publisher, the production of the publishing houses, the advertisement and the publicity of the publishing house) and some subcategories are applied for every publishing houses. In the semifinal category the publishing houses are confronted together, in the end I determine their value for Czech culture. In the time view point, I only engage in the publishing houses for the time of the life of the main publishers.
