Stigmatization of obese people in health care

Abstract:

Stigmatizace obézních je ve společnosti četný jev a může být jedním zfaktorů ovlivňujícím psychické i fyzické fungování obézního jedince. Tyto důsledky, jež stigma na obézního jedince může mít jsou v práci komplexně představeny. Stigmatizace může mít vliv i na léčbu obezity a to mj. skrze postoje a přesvědčení zdravotníků ohledně obézních osob. Právě tyto postoje a přesvědčení jsou v práci kvantifikovány a rovněž jsou zkoumány faktory, jež mohou na tyto postoje a přesvědčení mít vliv.

Abstract:

Stigma and discrimination toward obese persons are pervasive and pose numerous consequences for their psychological and physical health. These consequences, which stigma can have on an obese individual are comprehensively presented. Weight stigma can also affect the treatment of obesity, mainly through the attitudes and beliefs that health professionals hold regarding obese people. It is these attitudes and beliefs that are quantified in the thesis as well as the factors that can be associated with these attitudes and beliefs.
