Adaptation of Seniors to a Life in a Home for the Elderly

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na proces adaptace seniorů na pobyt v domově pro seniory. Teoretická část práce se zabývá vymezením pojmů stáří a stárnutí, popisuje možnosti péče o seniory a definuje pojem adaptace. Cílem diplomové práce je objasnit, co ovlivňuje proces adaptace seniorů v domově pro seniory, jakou roli zastává při adaptaci rodina, jakým způsobem ovlivňují adaptaci každodenní činnosti zařízení a její pracovníci. Pro zodpovězení hlavní výzkumné otázky této práce byla zvolena kvalitativní metoda, rozhovor. Rozhovory byly vedeny se seniory ve vybrané pobytové sociální službě. Jako stěžejní se při adaptaci seniora ukázala být podpora rodiny a blízkých.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the process of adaptation of the elderly to the stay in a home for the elderly. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the definition of the concepts of old age and aging, describes the possibilities of care for the elderly and defines the concept of adaptation. The aim of the thesis is to explain what influences the process of adaptation of seniors in a home for the elderly, what role the family plays in adaptation, how the daily activities of the facility and its staff influence adaptation. To answer the main research question of this thesis, a qualitative method, an interview, was chosen. The interviews were conducted with seniors in the selected residential social service. The support of the family and loved ones proved to be pivotal in the adaptation of the elderly.
