Implementation of Critical Chain as a methodology for managing projects

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na jednu z nových metod projektového řízení, kterou v současné době projektový management začíná uplatňovat v praxi. Metodu světu předvedl E. M. Goldratt. Založil ji na teorii omezení, kterou prezentoval již dříve. Tato nová metoda je v projektovém řízení stále více využívána a v budoucnu by mohla být používána stejně hojně, jako metoda kritické cesty.Práce se člení na teoretické východisko práce a zavádění řízení projektů podle metody kritického řetězu. Teoretické východisko práce seznamuje čtenáře s projektovým managementem, s teorií omezení, s problémy, které se vyskytují v běžném řízení projektu, a popisuje podstatné zásady metody kritického řetězu, které tyto problémy eliminují nebo jim předchází.Část zavádění řízení projektů podle metody kritického řetězu je stěžejní částí práce. Věnuje se implementaci metody kritického řetězu do projektového řízení a popisuje postupy, jak konkrétně tato implementace probíhá. Doporučené postupy a zásady jsou výsled-kem odborných konzultací s lidmi, kteří oblast projektového managementu nejen studovali, ale v současné době ji i praktikují. Kromě zásad a doporučených postupů je v práci upozorňováno i na problémy, s kterými se lze během aplikace metody setkat. Dále práce obsahuje srovnání různých přístupů, simulace a porovnání nové metody s klasickým přístupem řízení projektů. V závěru práce jsou prezentovány, kromě shrnutí metody, výsledky dotazníkového průzkumu, které ověřují různé teorie metody kritický řetězu.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on one of the new project management method that is current-ly being applied in practice by the project management. This method has been introduced to the world by E. M. Goldratt. Its foundations lie on the theory of constraints presented by him earlier. This new method is increasingly used in the project management and in the future it might be used as often as the critical path method.The thesis is divided into the theoretical part and an implementation of the project management in accordance with the critical chain method. The theoretical basis introduces the project management, the theory of constraints, the problems occurring at the common project management to the readers, and the major rules of the critical chain method that can help eliminating or preventing these problems are described. The section on an implementation of the project management in accordance with the critical chain method represents a fundamental part of the thesis. It attends to the im-plementation of the critical chain method in the project management and it describes the specific implementation steps. The recommended procedures and steps result from the professional consultations with the people who not only studied the project manage-ment, but are also nowadays active in this field. Beside the rules and recommended proce-dures the thesis point out the problems that can occur at the method. The thesis also con-tains a comparison of various approaches, simulation and a comparison of the new method with the conventional project management approach. At the close also the results of the questionnaire survey checking various theories of the critical chain method are pre-sented.
