The Relationship of Mother and Father to a Newborn

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore and describe the relationship between mothers and fathers to the newborn during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Methodology: Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, a qualitative approach was chosen to achieve the objective. Data collection was carried out using semi-structured interviews with parents of newborns. During the interviews, the technique of direct observation was also used and field notes were described. Subsequently, a content analysis of all the data obtained was carried out with the defined categories and subcategories. The interviews were conducted with a total of four families. Results: A total of four main categories were identified: 1. motherhood and parenthood, 2. pregnancy, 3. childbirth, and 4. the postpartum period. The most common problems occurred in the postpartum period in relation to breastfeeding and overall care of the newborn. There was a significant need for education for women in the area of breastfeeding and for men in the area of newborn care. There was also a need for information during pregnancy on how to build an emotional bond between the mother, father, and newborn. There was a need for support and education from midwives during prenatal care and also in the postpartum period. The inclusion of men throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Conclusion: The birth of a child fundamentally changes the life of a family, including their daily routine. Research findings can be used to improve the quality of prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care in the context of bonding with the fetus and newborn. The Ministry of Health should take steps to support the integration of community midwives into the maternal and newborn care system. Abstract:

Cieľ : Cieľom práce bolo zistiť a popísať vzťah matky a otca k novorodencovi počas tehotenstva a v období šestonedelia. Metodika: Vzhľadom k citlivej téme bol k dosiahnutiu cieľa zvolený kvalitatívny prístup. Zber potrebných dát bol realizovaný formou neštandardizovaného rozhovoru s rodičmi novorodencov. Behom rozhovorov bola taktiež využitá technika priameho pozorovania a rovno boli popísané terénne poznámky. Následne prebehla obsahová analýza všetkých získaných dát s vytýčenými jednotlivými kategóriami a podkategóriami. Jednotlivé rozhovory boli realizované celkom so štyrmi rodinami. Výsledky: Celkom boli zostavené štyri hlavné kategórie: 1. materstvo a rodičovstvo, 2. obdobie gravidity, 3. obdobie pôrodu. 4. obdobie šestonedelia. Najčastejšie problémy sa objavovali v období šestonedelia v súvislosti s dojčením a celkovou starostlivosťou o novorodenca. Významnou potrebou bola edukácia žien v oblasti dojčenia a mužov v rámci starostlivosti o novorodenca. Potreba získavania informácií v období gravidity ohľadom budovania citového puta medzi matkou, otcom a novorodencom. Potreba podpory a edukácie od pôrodných asistentiek počas prenatálnej starostlivosti a následne aj v období šestonedelia. Zakomponovanie mužov do celého obdobia gravidity, pôrodu a šestonedelia. Záver: Narodenie dieťaťa zásadne zmenilo život rodiny. Súčasne taktiež došlo aj k zmene denného režimu rodiny. Výsledky výskumu môžu pomôcť zlepšiť kvalitu prenatálnej, intrapartálnej a postpartálnej starostlivosti v rámci budovania puta k plodu a novorodencovi. Ministerstvo zdravotníctva by malo podniknúť kroky na podporu integrácie komunitných pôrodných asistentiek do systému starostlivosti o matky a novorodencov.
