Screening for Amblyogenic Refractive Errors in Preschool Children

Abstract:

Amblyopia is a malfunction which is well-treatable during the sensitive phase of the vision development. For its tracing, some of the screening techniques were implemented into the medical practice, which are capable of detecting of the risk factors, resp. its unrare asymptomatic or symptomatic condition. Its value consists in enabling early detection of the disease and starting of the cure in the most sensitive age. The aim of my diploma work is to resume the widest possible range of information about amblyopia and refractive errors, which can lead into the amblyopia, from the home and accessible foreign literature. Its content comprises the relative anatomical and physiological introduction and the information about refractive errors. The following chapters are dedicated to the binocular vision and its development, amblyopia, screening techniques and the treatment possibilities. In the practical part I focus on the ratio of the amblyogenic factors in the preschool children and of the particular types of the refractive errors and strabismus. I evaluate and make conclusions out of the given data about the amblyopia treatment by the method of full-time occlusion and investigate the effectiveness of this treatment in the preschool children. By means of the above-mentioned I vindicate the significance of the amblyopia refractive errors screening in the early age.

Abstract:

Amblyopia je porucha dobre liečiteľná počas senzitívnej fázy vývoja videnia. Na jej zachytenie boli uvedené do praxe niektoré skríningové techniky, ktoré dokážu odhaliť rizikové faktory, či jej nezriedkavý asymptomatický alebo symptomatický priebeh. Hodnotné sú hlavne tým, že umožňujú včasné zachytenie choroby a zahájenie liečby v tom najcitlivejšom veku. Cieľom mojej diplomovej práce je zhrnúť čo najširší rozsah informácií o amblyopii a refrakčných vadách, ktoré k nej môžu viesť, z domácej a dostupnej zahraničnej literatúry. Jej obsahom je súvisiaci anatomický a fyziologický úvod a informácie o refrakčných vadách oka. Ďalšie kapitoly sú venované binokulárnemu videniu a jeho vývoju, amblyopii, skríningovým technikám a možnostiam liečby. V praktickej časti sa zameriavam na podiel amblyogénnych faktorov u predškolákov a konkrétnych typov refrakčných vád a strabizmu, hodnotím a vyvodzujem závery z poskytnutých údajov z liečby amblyopie celodennou oklúziou a skúmam účinnosť liečby amblyopie u predškolákov, čím dokazujem dôležitosť skríningu amblyogénnych refrakčných vád v ranom veku.
