The Late Consolatory Works of Comenius and their Biblical Basis

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá rozborem tří vybraných Komenského útěšných spisů z hlediska autorovy práce s Biblí – těmito spisy jsou Kšaft umírající matky Jednoty bratrské, Řvání hrdličky (Truchlivý III) a Smutný hlas (Truchlivý IV). V první části práce je představeno Komenského náboženské smýšlení, jeho styčné body s teologií Jednoty bratrské i oblasti, v nichž Komenský naopak myšlenkový rámec Jednoty (i své doby) překračuje. Druhá část práce se zaměřuje na Komenského vztah k Bibli, který je možné v jeho díle pozorovat jak po stránce obsahové, tak po stránce formální, jazykové – v této souvislosti jsou stručně připomenuty základní intertextové pojmy a postupy. Poslední část práce pak krátce zmiňuje dějiny konsolace, charakterizuje Komenského útěšné spisy a zahrnuje také samotný rozbor. Cílem této práce je představení Komenského jakožto autora těsně spjatého s Biblí, s níž ve svém díle pracuje velmi variabilně, ale vždy s citem pro působivost jejího formálního zapojení.

Abstract:

This diploma paper deals with an analysis of three of Comenius’ consolatory works with respect to the author’s work with the Bible. The analyzed works are Kšaft umírající matky Jednoty bratrské, Řvání hrdličky (Truchlivý III) and Smutný hlas (Truchlivý IV). In the first part of this paper, religious views of Comenius are introduced – the correspondences to the theology of Moravian brothers as well as the areas in which he steps out of the frame of thought of the Moravian brothers (and also the frame of thought of his age). The second part of the paper is focused on Comenius’ attitude to the Bible – in his work, we may observe a relationship to the Bible’s content as well as to its form, language. Therefore, also the basic concepts and methods of intertextuality are mentioned. The last part then briefly mentions the history of consolation, characterizes the consolatory works of Comenius and includes the analysis. The aim of this paper is to introduce Comenius as an author closely related to the Bible, which he employs in his work with great variability, but always with a sense for the impressiveness of its formal involvement.
