Residential Housing Design Principles According to Le Corbusier

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá Le Corbusierem a jeho pojetím kolektivního bydlení. Práce je rozdělena na tři hlavní kapitoly. V první kapitole je nastíněn obecně vývoj a pozadí vzniku kolektivního bydlení od 18. do počátku 20. století. Tato kapitola se zabývá průmyslovou revolucí, populační explozí, teorií ideálních měst, přeměnou velkoměst v 19. století, vznikem nových urbanistických forem (zahradní předměstí), velmi stručně je popsán vznik moderní architektury, mezinárodní kongresy moderní architektury a výstavy moderního bydlení. Druhá stěžejní kapitola práce se věnuje Le Corbusierovi a jeho pojetí kolektivního bydlení. Na začátku této kapitoly je představena Le Corbusierova teorie architektury a teorie bydlení. Hlavní pasáž kapitoly je věnována Le Corbusierově tvorbě. Nejprve je pozornost zaměřena na obytné jednotky, poté na urbanismus. U obytných jednotek se snažím zachytit Le Corbusierův vývoj od návrhů sériových vil až k návrhům Unité d´habitation. V urbanistickém díle jsou popsány projekty ideálních měst i konkrétní urbanistické projekty velkoměst. Třetí kapitola práce porovnává Unité d´habitation, jako poslední vývojový typ Le Corbusierova kolektivního domu, se stavbami ostatních autorů, kteří se zúčastnili mezinárodní výstavy Interbau v roce 1957 v Berlíně.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with Le Corbusier and his conception of housing development. The thesis is divided into three basic parts. The first part outlines the development and the background of formation of housing development from the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. This part deals with industrial revolution, population explosion, theory of optimal urban design, cities development in the 19th century, suburbanization, further it is described in short the origin of modern architecture, the International Congress of Modern Architecture and the International Building Exhibitions. The second part of thesis, which is principal, address itself to Le Corbusier and his conception of housing development. The beginning of this part outlines Le Corbusier´s theory of architecture and theory of housing. Principally, the second part of thesis pays attention to Le Corbusier´s works. At first this part focus on housing afterwards on urbanism. When describing the housing I try to demonstrate the process of architectonic projects from serial dwelling house to Unité d´habitation. As far as urbanism is concerned they are outlined the projects of optimal urban design and the urban planning aimed at real cities. The third part of thesis compares Unité d´habitation (as the last stage of development of Le Corbusier´s block of flats) with construction of the other architects, who took part in the International Building Exhibition called Interbau in 1957 in Berlin.
