Impact analysis of the implementation of Scrum methodology in the banking company

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou dopadů implementace agilní metodiky Scrum ve zkoumané bankovní společnosti. Cílem práce je na základě tematické analýzy dat identifikovat pozitivní a negativní stránky agilní transformace, včetně následné generalizace zjištěných poznatků. Poté odhalit příčiny negativ a navrhnout řešení na jejich zmírnění. Práce dále zkoumá aktuální problémy v týmech a nabízí doporučení k jejich odstranění. Dílčím cílem je zrealizovat kvalitativní výzkum v příslušné organizaci.Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí – metodické, teoretické a praktické. První část tvoří kapitoly, které se zabývají popisem sledovaného problému, rešerší informačních zdrojů a charakteristikou použitých metod, převážně kvalitativního výzkumu. Teoretická část se věnuje tradičním a agilním metodikám vývoje softwaru, včetně jejich srovnání a uvádí důvody agilní transformace. Charakterizuje principy vodopádového modelu, metodiky Scrum a frameworku LeSS, který se používá pro škálování agilních metodik. Poslední, praktická část obsahuje analýzu agilně řízeného projektu, průběh kvalitativního výzkumu, návrh řešení a srovnání pozitivních dopadů a důvodů k implementaci s celosvětovými průzkumy, které potvrdily platnost výsledků kvalitativního výzkumu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of the impacts on the implementation of the Scrum agile methodology in the studied banking company. The main goal of this thesis is to identify the positive and negative implications of the agile transformation including the subsequent generalization of the findings based on thematic data analysis. Then reveal the causes of the negative aspects and propose solution to mitigate them. The thesis also identifies current problems in teams and offers recommendations for their removal. The partial objective is implementation of qualitative research in the relevant organization.The thesis is divided into three main parts - methodical, theoretical and practical. The first part consists of chapters dealing with the description of the observed problems, the research of information sources and the characteristics of scientific methods which were used (mainly qualitative research) The theoretical part is dedicated to traditional and agile software methodologies including their comparison and introduces reasons for agile transformation. It characterizes the principles of the waterfall model, Scrum methodology and the LeSS framework which is used for scaling and adapting agile methodologies. The last, practical part contains the analysis of agile-driven project, described process of qualitative research, proposal of solution and comparison of positive impacts and reasons for agile implementation with global surveys, which confirmed the validity of qualitative research.
