Abstract:

Institucionální teorie umění je založena na tvrzení, že instituce světa umění (muzea, galerie, koncertní sály) a jejich agenti (kurátoři, dramaturgové, producenti, kritici, umělci atd.) mohou diktovat, co je umění a co ne. Ve volnějším pojetí může být tímto agentem kdokoliv, kdo se dokáže dostatečně sžít s rolí zmíněných profesí. Tímto procesem je možno překlasifikovat i předmět každodenní potřeby na umělecký artefakt. Institucionální teorie umění George Dickieho vznikla v závislosti na předchozích textech Arthura C. Danta a byla následována mnoha dalšími teoretiky a sociology, kteří se na téma „labellingu“ v umění zaměřili. Cílem této magisterské diplomové práce je přehled a analýza teorií, založených na přiřazení statusu uměleckého díla určitému předmětu na základě „nálepky“, které sdílí principy institucionální teorie. Jmenovitě se jedná o teorie Arthura C. Danta, George Dickieho, Terry J. Diffeyho, Timothy Binkleyho, Jerrolda Levinsona a Howarda S. Beckera. V závěru práce se zaměřím na institucionální teorie v kontextu umění nových médií, a to především z hlediska, do jaké míry lze tyto teorie na moderní umění aplikovat.

Abstract:

The institutional theory of art is based on assertion that institutions of art (museums, galleries, concert halls) and their agents (curators, dramaturges, producers, critics, artists, etc.) can determine, what is or is not art. In a broader sense, anyone who can get used to the roles of professions mentioned above can become the agent of art. This process enables reclassification of even everyday objects for works of art – artifacts. George Dickie’s institutional theory of art is based on earlier works and texts of Arthur C. Danto and was followed by many other theorists and sociologists who focused on “labellig” in art. The aim of this master thesis is overview and analysis of theories, based on assigning the status of artwork to the certain object on the basis of “label”, that share the principles of institutional theory. Namely there are theories of Arthur C. Danto, George Dickie, Terry J. Diffey, Timothy Binkley, Jerrold Levinson and Howard S. Becker. Finally, I will focus on institutional theories in the context of new media art, especially in terms of the extent to which such theories can be applied to modern art.
