The effect of Donald Trump's tweets on EUR/USD exchange rate

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, jaký vliv mají tweety 45. prezidenta Spojených států amerických Donalda Trumpa na měnový kurz EUR/USD a statistické vyhodnocení Trumpových tweetů publikovaných v roce 2019. Teoretická část práce popisuje Dow Jones industrial average, analýzu textového sentimentu, vývoj využití internetu a sociálních sítí pro politické účely a v neposlední řadě osobní twitterový účet Donalda Trumpa @realDonaldTrump. Za účelem dosažení stanovených cílů byla provedena regresní a korelační analýza vlivu DJIA na měnový kurz EUR/USD. Dále byl navržen vlastní datový program vytvořený pomocí skriptovacího jazyku Python, na jehož základu byla provedena analýza vlivu pozitivních tweetů týkajících se ekonomiky na jednodenní změnu zkoumaného měnového kurzu. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty dílčí výsledky společně s návrhem na další možné bádání v této oblasti.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explore and determine the effect of tweets of the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump on the EUR/USD exchange rate and to statistically evaluate Trump's tweets published in 2019. The theoretical part is devoted to the Dow Jones industrial average, text sentiment analysis, use of internet and social networks for political purposes and last but not least the Donald Trump's personal Twitter account @realDonaldTrump. In order to achieve the set goals, regression and correlation analyzes of the DJIA's impact on the EUR/USD exchange rate were performed. Furthermore, a proprietary data program was created using the Python script language. The program that was written specifically for this thesis later acted as a basis for an analysis of the influence of positive tweets concerning the economy on the one-day change of the examined exchange rate. In the conclusion of the thesis, there is a summary of partial results alongside a proposal for further possible research in this area.
