Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce Příroda v díle Josefa Váchala zkoumá vztah dlouho téměř neznámého českého malíře, dřevorytce a spisovatele J. Váchala k přírodě. Přibližuje jeho vnímání a chápání volné krajiny, lesních divočin i přírody v panteistickém pojetí a zabývá se s tím spojenými odkazy jako jsou romantismus, chodectví, pohanství. Od sledování popisu a výkladu se dostává k přehledu environmentálních problémů ve Váchalových spisech. V nich je patrná silná kritika antropocentrismu a jeho negativních dopadů na prostředí. Důležitá skutečnost je, že Váchalův osobní život byl s jeho dílem zásadně spojen. Poznání města i venkova, delší pobyty v horách, vlastní zkušenost s utrpením zvířat či zrychlující se tempo automobilismu jsou impulzem pro soukromé záznamy i umělecká zpracování. Práce ukazuje environmentální myšlení jedné z předních postav české umělecké scény 20. století.

Abstract:

This Master’s thesis examines Nature in the Works of Josef Váchal. This Czech painter, wood engraver and writer is practically unknown at present. The thesis deals with his pantheist perception and understanding of a free landscape,the forest wilderness and nature. It also explores related links such as Romanticism, hiking and paganism. From Váchal’s description and explanations it consequently turns to environmental problems in his works. A criticism of anthropocentrism with its negative impact on the environment is evident here. The fact that Váchal’s life is closely connected with his work is also important. He had the experience of both the city and the countryside, with extensive stays in the mountains. He witnessed the suffering of animals as well as the expansion of the use of automobiles, all of which he employs in his personal notes and as an inspiration for his artistic work. The environmental views of one of the greatest figures of Czech art of the 20th century are dealt with in this thesis.
