Trend in gender segregation in labour market in the Czech republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vývojem genderové segregace na trhu práce v České republice v rozmezí let 1994 – 2010. V teoretické části práce v souvislosti s vytyčenými cíli definuji pojmy, sociologické a genderové koncepty vztahující se k problematice genderové segregace a také zasazuji český trh práce do historického kontextu. Analytická část obsahuje výsledky kvantitativní analýzy dat z Výběrového šetření pracovních sil a prezentuje transformaci genderové segregace trhu práce v ČR v letech 1994 - 2010 na všech jejích úrovních. Očekávaná proměna zaměstnanecké struktury českého pracovního trhu z hlediska genderové segregace nebyla tak výrazná jako hluboké společenské změny v České republice po roce 1989. Míra genderové segregace na trhu práce má od roku 1994 jen velice pozvolnou klesající tendenci. Počet výrazně genderově segregovaných zaměstnaneckých skupin zůstává konstantně na vysoké úrovni, zaměstnání jsou tedy stále genderované instituce. Vertikální segregace se na českém trhu práce vyskytuje také - muži nad ženami převažují ve vedoucích pozicích. Ani v delším časovém horizontu není zaznamenán žádný významný trend, který by udával zvětšující se podíl žen v řídicích pozicích. Ačkoliv mírný nárůst lze vysledovat od roku 2002.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the development of gender segregation in the labor market in the Czech Republic between 1994-2010. The theoretical part of the work in connection with the research goals include definitions, sociological and gender concepts that are related to the issue of gender segregation, and there is also space for insertion of the Czech labor market to the historical context of the country. Analytical part contains the results of the research focused on quantitative analysis of data from the Labour Force Survey and presents the transformation of gender segregation in the labor market in the Czech Republic between 1994-2010 at all levels. The expected transformation of the employment structure of the Czech labor market in terms of gender segregation was not as strong as the profound social changes in the Czech Republic since 1989. The extent of the gender segregation in the labor market since 1994 has only a very gradual downward trend. Number strongly gender-segregated occupational groups remains constantly high level of employment are thus increasingly gendered institutions. Vertical segregation in the Czech labor market also appears, men predominate over women in leadership positions. Even in the longer term, there's no significant trend that would indicate an increasing proportion of women in management positions. Although a slight increase can be traced since 2002.
