The Relationship across the Taiwan Strait: the Question of the Identity and the Unification on the Background of the Economics Relationship

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá ekonomické a politické vztahy skrze Taiwanskou úžinu, ke kterým dochází od 80. let minulého století. Problematika těchto vztahů je zkoumána především ze strany ROC (Čínské republiky, Taiwanu). Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, zda se ekonomická integrace mezi jednotlivými oblastmi úžiny přelévá i do oblasti politické integrace a přispívá tak ke sjednocení ROC s PRC. Autorka se bude především zaměřovat na přístup Taiwanců k otázce sjednocení a také na jejich vnímání čínské/taiwanské identity.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is concerned about the economic and political relationship across the Taiwan Strait, which has lasted since the end of the 80‘s. This kind of issue is analyzed mainly from the ROC´s point of view. The main aim of this work is to find out if economic cooperation comes to the spillover effect to the political cooperation and can lead to re–unification of ROC with PRC. The authoress’s major interest will be focussed on the opinions of the Taiwanese people about the question of the re–unification and also their feels for Taiwanese or Chinese identity.
