Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se soustředí na Tomáše G. Masaryka a jeho myšlenky, které dohromady formují jeho vlastní paradigma mezinárodní politiky. Ústředním cílem této práce je zjistit, jak bychom mohli Tomáše G. Masaryka klasifikovat v rámci teorie mezinárodních vztahů. V kontextu první velké debaty o mezinárodních vztazích tato práce adresuje problematiku dichotomického dělení na idealistickou a realistickou tradici. Práce se zabývá také rekonstrukcí této debaty v jejímž rámci rozebírá různorodost idealistické tradice, v níž se objevují přístupy konzervativní a radikální, či liberalistické a institucionalistické. Práce rozlišuje tři období v nichž Masaryk své koncepce mezinárodních vztahů formuje a sleduje vývoj, který ho vedl od umírněnější koncepce humanity a vzájemnosti k myšlence světové revoluce v níž demokratické režimy nahrazují režimy staré, aristokratické. Koncepce podobná demokratickému míru se promítá i do Masarykovy představy o mezinárodní spolupráci, kterou považuje za přirozený vývoj spojený s rostoucí vzájemnou závislostí mezi státy a podmiňuje ji demokratickým mezinárodním uspořádáním. Masaryk je díky své představě o duchovním pokroku a kritikou mocenské politiky jednoznačně definovatelný jako idealista. Při porovnání s jednotlivými autory se Masaryk nejvíce shoduje s Alfredem Zimmernem, který kladl podobný důraz na význam morální odpovědnosti v mezinárodních vztazích. Přesto se Zimmernův konzervativní přístup k zachování velmocenského řádu protiví s odmítnutím realpolitiky, jíž odmítl Masaryk. Určité shody byly shledány také s koncepcí Angella a Toynbeeho. Určitá podobnost je i mezi Masarykem a Niebuhrem, jejichž koncepce se ovšem rozchází v odlišném vnímání politické reality.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on Tomáš G. Masaryk and his ideas, which together form his own paradigm of international relations. The central aim of this work is to determine how we could classify Tomáš G. Masaryk within the framework of the theory of international relations. In the context of the first great debate on international relations, this thesis addresses the issue of the dichotomous division between traditions of idealism and realism. The work also deals with the reconstruction of this debate, within which it analyzes the diversity of the idealistic tradition, in which conservative and radical approaches, as well as liberal and institutionalist ones, are found. The thesis distinguishes three periods in which Masaryk formed his concepts of international relations and follows the development that led him from a more moderate concept of humanity and interdependency to the idea of a world revolution in which democratic regimes replace old, aristocratic ones. A concept similar to democratic peace is also reflected in Masaryk's vision of international cooperation, which he considers a natural development associated with the growing interdependence between states and which he conditions by a democratic international order. Due to his idea of spiritual and moral progress and criticism of power politics, Masaryk can be clearly defined as an idealist thinker. When compared to individual authors, Masaryk's ideas most closely resemble the ones of Alfred Zimmern, who placed a similar emphasis on the importance of moral responsibility and democracy in international relations. However, Zimmern's conservative approach to preserving the order of the "Concert of Europe" contradicts Masaryk's rejection of realpolitik. Certain similarities were also found with the concepts of Angel and Toynbee. There is also a certain similarity between Masaryk and Niebuhr, whose concepts, however, differ in his contrasting perception of political reality.
